Aromatic & Delicious. Introducing MayaNut to You 🫵

MayaNut (Brosimum alicastrum) nursery trees in cultivation in South Florida MayaNut fruit on the tree (Brosimum alicastrum)

Over 200 seed-grown MayaNut (Brosimum alicastrum) trees are currently in cultivation. Founded in 2025, we are developing MayaNut as a long-term agricultural crop in Florida, United States, emphasizing seed-grown populations, selection, and domestication.

Brosimum alicastrum has been traditionally valued in Central America for its edible tree-seed. As the project progresses, we are exploring pathways toward establishing a first MayaNut farm in South Florida, while the current population remains maintained in cultivation as long-term land options are evaluated.

Herbert “Bubba” Humphries

Founded in 2025 by August Kokus, The MayaNut Company builds on a family legacy of American fruit growing that dates back generations. August’s great-grandfather, Herbert “Bubba” Humphries, was an early pioneer of citrus cultivation in Florida in the early 1920s. Drawing on that history, August Kokus is introducing a new crop— MayaNut (Brosimum alicastrum)—to modern American agriculture.

August Kokus

August Kokus is working in South Florida to establish Brosimum alicastrum as a new agricultural staple. As the citrus industry continues to decline, Florida must look toward new perennial crops to sustain its agricultural future. August created The MayaNut Company to introduce people to a resilient, long-overlooked food tree—and to ensure the preservation of Brosimum alicastrum for generations to come.

The MayaNut Company is actively working to establish Brosimum alicastrum as a long-term agricultural food staple. August Kokus is developing this species for agricultural and scientific purposes.

By cultivating these trees, we can do something new and unique no one else thought to do. We hope you'll love MayaNut just as much as we do!
